The suspect accused of murdering 36-year-old interior designer Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar will face charges tomorrow at the Petaling Jaya Court. This was confirmed today by Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar, the District Police Chief of Petaling Jaya.

The suspect, a 50-year-old unemployed man, was apprehended along with two others at a Kuala Lumpur apartment on Sept 20. The police believe that theft was the primary motive, leading to the fatal incident.

Shahrulnizam explained that the suspect had allegedly broken into the victim’s home with the intention of stealing. The victim, however, confronted the intruder, which led to a violent struggle that caused the victim’s death.

On Sept. 16, Muhammad Sharqawi was found dead at his residence in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, with more than 20 stab wounds. Initially regarded as a break-in case, the investigation was later reclassified as a robbery leading to death after personal belongings were found missing from the scene.
